Instrument Types
Instruments are not prefixed with any characters that indicate instrument types. You will see the instrument type (Index, Equity, Currency, or Future) to the left of the symbol when you type it into the Symbol Field on a chart:
Stock Instruments
All stock instruments are entered without any leading character, but there are certain instances when the symbol can contain an appendage to indicate a special case. The following table lists these special appendages.

Future Instruments
All North American futures contain group symbol, followed by expiration month code and year.
Expiration month maps to a code from the following table:

Z |
Following the month code, future instruments contain two digits for the expiration year.
